Stop Sign
You must come to a complete stop before the stop line, crosswalk, or intersection. Yield to all traffic and pedestrians before proceeding.
Yield Sign
Slow down and be prepared to stop. Give the right-of-way to traffic in the intersection or on the road you are entering.
Speed Limit Sign
Indicates the maximum legal speed in kilometres per hour under ideal conditions. You must not exceed this speed.
No Entry Sign
You must not enter the road or lane in the direction you are travelling. Often used for one-way streets and exit ramps.
No Parking Sign
Parking is not permitted at this location. You may stop briefly to drop off or pick up passengers but cannot leave your vehicle.
No Left Turn Sign
Left turns are prohibited at this intersection. You must turn right or go straight.
One Way Sign
Traffic travels in one direction only on this road. The arrow shows the permitted direction of travel.
Keep Right Sign
Keep to the right side of a traffic island, median, or obstruction.
Curve Ahead Sign
A curve in the road is ahead. Reduce your speed before entering the curve.
Pedestrian Crossing Sign
A pedestrian crosswalk is ahead. Watch for pedestrians crossing the road and be prepared to stop.
Slippery Road Sign
The road may be slippery when wet. Reduce speed and increase following distance.
Railway Crossing Sign
A railway crossing is ahead. Slow down, look both ways, and be prepared to stop for trains.
Intersection Ahead Sign
An intersection is ahead. Be prepared for cross traffic and reduce speed if necessary.
Animal Crossing Sign
Wild animals (deer, moose) frequently cross this road. Reduce speed, especially at dawn and dusk.
Sharp Turn Sign
A sharp turn is ahead. Reduce speed significantly before the turn.
Detour Sign
The normal route is closed. Follow detour signs to reach your destination via an alternate route.
Road Closed Sign
The road ahead is closed to all traffic. You must turn around or follow the detour.
Reduced Speed Ahead Sign
The speed limit is reduced ahead, usually due to construction. Slow down before reaching the new speed zone.
Construction Ahead Sign
Road construction is ahead. Reduce speed, watch for workers and equipment, and follow all posted signs.
Flagger Ahead Sign
A flagger (traffic control person) is directing traffic ahead. Obey all flagger instructions — they have the same authority as traffic signs.
Lane Closed Sign
One or more lanes are closed ahead. Merge safely into the open lane as soon as possible.
School Zone Sign
You are entering a school zone. Reduce speed to 40 km/h (or posted limit) when children are present.
School Crossing Sign
Children may be crossing the road here. Watch for a school crossing guard and be prepared to stop.
Playground Zone Sign
You are near a playground. Reduce speed to 15 km/h when children are present.
HOV Lane Sign
High Occupancy Vehicle lane. Only vehicles with 2 or more occupants (driver + at least 1 passenger) may use this lane during posted hours.
HOV Diamond Pavement Marking
The diamond symbol painted on the road indicates an HOV lane. Only qualifying vehicles may travel in this lane.
Emergency Vehicle Warning
An emergency vehicle (police, fire, ambulance) is approaching with lights and sirens. Pull to the right and stop until it passes.
Slow Down — Move Over
Emergency vehicles or tow trucks are stopped on the roadside. You must slow down and move over one lane if safe to do so.
Hospital Sign
A hospital is nearby. Blue "H" signs direct you to the nearest hospital or emergency services.
