Parallel Parking — Step by Step
Pull up alongside the front car
Position your car parallel to the car ahead, about 1 metre away. Your rear bumpers should be roughly aligned.
Signal right
Turn on your right signal to indicate you're pulling into the space.
Check mirrors and shoulder check
Check all mirrors and do a shoulder check before reversing.
Reverse and turn wheel right
Slowly reverse while turning your steering wheel fully to the right. Watch your rear-right corner.
Straighten and continue reversing
When your car is at roughly 45°, straighten the wheel and continue reversing slowly.
Turn wheel left to align
Turn the wheel fully left to bring the front of your car into the space. Watch the front-left corner.
Straighten and centre
Straighten the wheel. You should be within 30 cm of the curb and centred in the space.
Practice Makes Perfect
Set up two pylons or use parked cars in a quiet area. Practise until you can park within 30 cm of the curb consistently without thinking about the steps.

How close to the curb do I need to be for the G2 test?
You must park within 30 centimetres (about 12 inches) of the curb. Parking further than 30 cm is an error.
Can I touch the curb during parallel parking on the G2 test?
Lightly touching the curb is typically a minor error. Mounting the curb (wheel going over it) is a more serious error.
How many attempts am I allowed for parallel parking?
